Real estate leaders are competing for tenants amidst a once-in-a-generation confluence of threats including reduced demand, reduced leverage, and financial pressures. At the same time, employers are struggling to encourage and enforce in-person workplace attendance.
But the world is full of intrepid and innovative owners, operators, and occupiers who are winning in this new landscape by reactivating their workspaces and delivering exceptional end-user experiences of real estate. That’s why HqO is recognizing the Best Spaces to Work that are reinvigorating culture, community, and engagement in the workplace by aligning purpose, form, and function with their customers.
How it works
Published quarterly, the list is based on real estate experience data from tenants and their employees gathered through HqO’s proprietary Intelligence products leveraging the world’s most powerful and trusted employee experience assessment framework.
To participate in the program, nominated spaces – buildings, offices, and amenities alike – purchase the HqO Assess package to undergo a REX Assessment, to in turn generate their REX Score, the quality measure of the end-user experiences within their space.
Spaces with a REX Score that meets or exceeds the REX Index benchmark (based on data gathered from 8,000+ workplaces and 1.8+ million employees) can upgrade their package to Best Spaces to Work certify their space. Best Spaces to Work certified spaces will be promoted across HqO and media partner channels reaching over 500K+ CRE professionals and receive their “Property Page” highlighting their REX Score and experience data. Certified properties in the United States will also be eligible for the Commercial Observer Power Properties list.
The Best Spaces to Work program is rolling, meaning data is continuously gathered, so REX Scores can always improve. For those who want to take it a step further, HqO will work with customers whose space did not meet benchmark criteria to help them create and implement a REX strategy that will be sure to increase their score.

What type of “space” qualifies for an HqO Best Space to Work list?
A building, an office space, or even an amenity space like a gym or clubhouse — can all be nominated for certification, regardless of size and shape, providing it supports an employee’s workplace experience.
How are ‘Best Spaces’ selected?
To participate in the program, nominated spaces will undergo a property evaluation with an HqO REX expert to generate their REX Score, the quality measure of the end-user experiences within their space. If the Score meets or exceeds the global industry benchmark, the space will be certified as one of the Best Spaces to Work.
When will the results be announced?
The list will be released on a quarterly basis.
