In the first episode of The Let’s Go Show, Michael Beckerman, the CEO of CRETech, joined Chase Garbarino to discuss how they got started in commercial real estate (CRE), the recent technological challenges in the industry, and the changes to the workplace.

In the latest episode, Michael returns to make bold predictions for the industry in 2022 and beyond, as well as to share his thoughts around the future of work.

Despite a tumultuous few years for every industry, Chase and Michael are in agreement that our cities will ‘build back better,’ and that they will continue to present substantial value as hubs of connectivity and innovation. In addition, Michael asserted, fully remote work is no longer sustainable, nor is it good for employees’ mental health.

“The trend of people wanting this concept of fully remote work is going to go away, and it’s going to be much more about flexibility,” he asserted. Indeed, flexible work is still preferred by many: in a recent poll conducted by HqO, 38% of respondents agreed that hybrid work models will continue on into 2022.

Michael also anticipates an increasing focus on climate change from leaders in the CRE space, as a response to more stringent restrictions and legislation. He considers it an urgent issue that not many corporations are seriously taking action to address, despite the annual global carbon emitted by the built sector (40%)

The increased regulations around sustainability may take the industry by surprise, he noted, but climate change will ultimately impact the operations of every single real estate company.

“It feels like it’s this giant meteor that’s coming to the planet that some of us are paying attention to, are stressed about trying to alert everybody, and that our industry, the built world, is not really paying attention to, but it’s coming. And I think it’s going to impact every single real estate company.”
